We’ve been on a website and blog refinement journey as you may have noticed. We decided to redesign our website to add a bit more information while keeping it simple, clean and easy to navigate. Hopefully, we’ve achieved this. We adopted the same line of thought for Carpark - simple clean lines and big fonts to bring some consistency to our two platforms. I must admit though, the site still uses Flash and requires at least some knowledge of code to build. Now we’re not trying to take anything away from Leon here (good job Leon!), but this morning I was captivated by one of the most unique and basic websites I’ve come across.
This creative (and presumably cheap) website broke through all the clutter on my RSS reader this morning and had me reading about a book I knew nothing about, not remotely interested in buying (before seeing the website) and at a time when the competition for my attention is fierce.
In this case, the author is trying to sell her stories - a novel titled “No-one belongs here more than you”. So she came up with an authentic story in itself, took some photos and built a path on the internet for potential readers to follow and be captivated by her originality. She tells us that the last word in her novel is triumphant, judging by the marketing here, can the book be anything less? Perhaps now, more people will be willing to find out.
It’s not to say that special effects and glitzy flash is useless, it just means that a good concept is not dependant on budget. A brilliant concept or idea will win hands down. This website shows us that originality is what gets you noticed (probably why Seth posted about it). So before you run out to do the same low cost promotional website, remember that there’s more value in your own idea…just make sure it’s just as good as this.
Love the design!
