Twitter T-Shirt
Have you ever walked past someone on the street and asked in true Aussie fashion “hows it goin?” without really wanting to find out how its really going. Its like a form of saying a quick “hi” and communicating purely to show that we can. This is probably my first impression of the new buzz around the blogosphere - Twitter.

If you don’t already know, Twitter is a site that allows you to post one-line messages about what you’re currently doing—via the web interface, IM, or SMS for the world to see and follow. You can of course limit who sees the messages if you so choose (my trial is public at the moment…follow me here). There has been quite a bit written about it by A-listers to nobodies like me and it seems many are still undecided about whether they love it or hate it…all the while the Twitter juggernaut continues to grow with all the debate.

Like David Armano, I think its an interesting application particularly for promotions and events (imagine the hype and pre-event PR that could be generated for something like the Big Day Out). I’m signed on and watching with interest…hacks and applications are being developed as we speak.

If you’re interests include marketing, conversations and the perhaps the future of communication, you should check it out or ‘particpate’ yourself before forming an opinion. I haven’t been a user long enough to provide any meaningful observations just yet but I’m quite sure that like the blogging phenomenon, it is dynamic enough to change with use. By starting with a simple and somewhat trivial question “what are you doing?”, it is already hosting shorthand conversations and the sharing of links and information in light speed.

Whether this is another interuption in our already heavily saturated lives or a solution for the saturation, only time will tell.

What others are saying:
Mack Collier, Kathy Sierra, Meg all provide their views, Liz Lawley also provides an excellent discussion on Twittering.

Actually there is some talk that twitter is a complete waste of time and very unproductive. It apprently becomes as unproductive as crack-berry.

Hmm that being said, how do I link to you via twitter?

Good point though, if you’re busy telling the twitter-verse what you’re doing all the time, you’re probably not doing it as productively (or efficiently) as you should. Or perhaps you’re using twitter because you’ve been too productive and efficient in everthing else you do that you have spare time???
