This one comes courtesy of PSFK. Part alarm clock, part Smart toy, part Flickr, Chumby is has been designed with the aim to merge our ever increasing Real life and Net life…Alpha geek I hear you cry, well you wouldn’t be reading this blog if you didn’t have some sort of “Net identity” about you.
With a 3.5 inch LCD screen, it’s designed to show pictures that your friends send you from their cellphones, and messages from your IM buddies, your blogs and social network sites. It can display your daily horoscope and the weather, and a whole community of artists and animators can send their creations around the chumby network to entertain you.
The Chumby blog tells us:
We invented the chumby because we’re not familiar with any other product that finds the right balance in providing passive continuous partial attention between our real and Net lives. Computers, Net-connected gaming machines, and cellphones essentially require our full attention when we’re using them. They’re anything but passive. And, as we all know, they can be downright anti-social.
While still in development stage, Chumby offers numerous opportunities for mash-ups. I’m sure the boys here at Accure could come up with a few applications in our converging markets for the Chumby. If you’re an Alpha geek, then you may be able to get your hands on a sample via the Chumby website for further development. As for the rest of us, we’ll just have to wait and see how this turns out.
Since writing this, Engadget have posted more on Mr Chumby Wumby after they received their sample one…
