Over the weekend, Michael, Donnie, Paps and Gregg donned the slick threads and headed north. Now you may be wondering what these Melbourne bred boys were doing up in the harbour town, (I think some of the guys were wondering the same thing Sunday morning after a few bevvys), but aside from the partying, the main reason was to attend the APPA Sapphire Winter Show 2006 held at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.

This annual event put on by APPA for all its members showcases the world according to promotional products and recognises through the Pyramid Award ceremony, the creativity and innovation exhibited in promotional products throughout the year.

This is the first year Accure entered the awards and quite frankly the boys did not know what quite to expect, well…maybe another Wompro/ CE whitewash. Despite the fact that we were told a few weeks back that we had in fact won an award (although William Kestin – APPA CEO remained tight lipped about the colour of the metal) the energy of the night seemed to take effect early on. It wasn’t long before our very own A-lister Michael was up collecting the Gold Pyramid for the Best Campaign in the Consumer Programs category. Michael tells us he was a bit confused as to where the Gold winner had to stand; we still think he suffered a little stage fright amongst all the joint bronze and silver winners. We all thought that it had ended there. Several pyramids were handed out without a further hint of the Accure name.

Then alas, the last Award for the night, the BIG one, the Gold Platinum Logie was about to be announced: “the Platinum Pyramid for Overall Excellence goes to…Accure!”

Of course the campaign was none other than the VB Boonanza of last summer. Boony is starting to rack up awards like he did runs during his halcyon days.
