We have officially moved into our new HQ on the west fringe of Ol’ Melbourne town. This creative space will see the next chapter of the Accure story. Coincidentally, 6 Phoenix Lane in West Melbourne has had quite a unique past and with words courtesy of Anne Pavey, here is a little description of our new old building.
Imagination, history, and steadfast integrity….the building signifies what is great about Melbourne, Phoenix Lane has stood the test of time, it’s the earliest intact example of a manufacturing building in Melbourne’s CBD, reflecting Melbourne’s urban industrial development.
In this building history has been made and will be again. Within these walls the young men and women in manufacturing fom the 1870’s through to the 1940’s were treated with dignity and respect. Industrial laws were formed and Melbourne was outfitted in style.
New technology was tested here and shared, some inventions even revolutionised manufacturing processes around the country. One of Melbourne’s greatest business men sipped wine and talked environmenal issues around her tables. Almost too early to imagine the impact these talks and his actions made. His legacy was significant.
She’s an “old girl” – who continues to surprise us – she has a new found lease of life – creativity, light and laughter once again fill her halls, she may creak and require extra TLC but in return she gives us all so much back.
